Applied Skills
This project has given me the opportunity to learn a lot about study design and collaboration with a network of interested parties. I ground-proofed and digitally mapped each of my study sites myself, and will be conducting all of the bird survey data individually. Some of my responsibilities have been:
-
Using arcGIS Collector, Google Maps, and Google Earth Pro to map study sites
-
Ground-measuring sites with laser rangefinders and transect tape
-
Timed area surveys for grassland birds
-
Grassland bird identification by sight and sound
-
Hiking long distances, navigating often steep terrain
I also photographed a long-tailed weasel while walking to my study sites, which was a bit of a local sensation
